SYRRA I CAN BE MEAN
Today we have the great pleasure of introducing new dark pop duo Syrra with the premiere of their debut single ‘I Can Be Mean’. Founded in the multi-cultural crucible of London before later polishing off tunes in the Portuguese mountains, Syrra is comprised of Swedish lead singer Aneta and Berlin-born producer Sinah. Meaning ‘sister’ in Swedish, the name Syrra taps into the very essence of this group who create beautiful sonic spaces out of vulnerability; spaces in which we may re-find our strength. This is wholly apparent on ‘I Can Be Mean’ where Aneta honestly unpacks themes of self-worth (or lack thereof) over Sinah’s glacial, pulsing production - with heart-rendering results. The single is also accompanied by a mesmeric video directed by Luna Black. Speaking of the video, Black states that “The work is a self-portrait, originally part of an installation for a projection festival. The film was projected through a vase of water into a mirrored box to create an otherworldly optical illusion”. ‘I Can Be Mean’ is the first in a series of tracks Syrra plan to release throughout the year, so we’re thrilled to know it might not be too long before we hear from this exciting pair again… - KJ
